UV-A radiometer calibration - NF EN ISO / IEC 17025 :2017

For many years, BABBCO has been carrying out metrological operations on its range of radio-photometers for the NDT and medical markets. We are now reinforcing our UV-A radiometer calibration services with NF EN ISO / IEC 17025 :2017 accreditation. This third-party recognition is proof of the technical competencies of our laboratory and of the smooth operation of an appropriate management system.

BABBCO’s laboratory is accredited by the Comité Français d'Accréditation (COFRAC) for its ability to measure UV-A 365nm radiation. COFRAC issued BABBCO with accreditation number 2-7199 on the 13th of July 2023 in accordance with the requirements of NF EN ISO/IEC 17025 :2017, which combines ISO 9002 quality system requirements with ISO 10012 metrology technical requirements to assess the competence and impartiality of laboratories.


To obtain this accreditation, BABBCO was audited to assess its quality systems applied to customer service, customer support, logistics and, above all, the metrology department on its brand new UV-A test bench, which was recently put into operation.

What are the stringent requirements for COFRAC accreditation?

ccredited bodies must undergo a rigorous process. Their skills are then certified by an accreditation system against the standards, reference systems or regulations in force. To obtain NF EN ISO/IEC 17025 :2017 accreditation, BABBCO was audited:

  • On the quality side, by a quality expert (dedicated staff, detailed and described structure, management of laboratory staff, etc.);
  • On the technical side, by a doctor in metrology (precise view on the calculation of uncertainties, observation of more than 40 variable parameters, etc.).

This accreditation is a guarantee of compliance, documentary quality and operational excellence.

What are the advantages of NF EN ISO/IEC 17025 :2017 accreditation?

This accreditation guarantees long-term reliability and impartiality through regular assessments and observations, and thus a high level of trust in the services provided. It also provides a common frame of reference and genuine recognition by complying with international requirements and standards.


In France, COFRAC is the government-recognised body responsible for issuing accreditations following assessment and validation of the application. The audits carried out by COFRAC officially certify BABBCO's independence and competence for a 4-year period. This accreditation is reviewed every year with a new audit.


It enables the company receiving this service to have all the metrological work validated upstream by COFRAC. It also enables us to meet the various requirements of our service provider customers who are involved in specialized operations on sensitive sites.

Technical outline of the NF EN ISO/IEC 17025 :2017 accredited service:

Here is the scope of accreditation for which the laboratory is recognized as competent to perform calibrations in strict compliance with the methods mentioned:

  • Main devices used: standard radiometers + UV-A source centered around 365 nm
  • Characteristic measured or sought: irradiance
  •  Measurement range: from 100 μW/cm² to 6,000 μW/cm².
  • Principle of the method: comparison, for different irradiance levels, of the response of a standard receiver and the response of the radiometer to be calibrated.
  • Method reference: internal method MI 02-29
  • Place of performance: BABBCO metrology laboratory.

Technical modifications to the procedure are not permitted (fixed range).
